The Barking Spider Board

Barking Spider Visual Theatre is proud to have a strong, energised governance to lead the company into the future. All board representatives are  members of the incorporated association. In 2016 we welcomed new Chair, Sue Westwood.

SUE WESTWOOD – Chair

Sue Westwood has been Business Manager at the Melbourne Athenaeum Incorporated since 2010. She was Business Manager at the Australian Tapestry Workshop in South Melbourne for 41/2 years. Sue has previously worked as the Finance Manager with Chunky Move, a theatre reviewer for Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper, and as a project manager with numerous theatre companies in Canberra and Tasmania including Jigsaw Theatre, Zootango Theatre, and Gorman House Arts Centre.

BOBBIE HODGE – Secretary

Amazing arts person, Bobbie has worked across many areas within the Melbourne arts sector, including Back-to-Back Theatre and many other community focussed organisations.

DANNY DELAHUNTY – Treasurer 

Danny Delahunty is Festival Producer for Melbourne Fringe Festival. He is an arts producer and theatre director who has been working broadly in the independent sector for the best part of the past ten years. He has presented over 50 seasons of 34 projects, working with established theatre companies, on independent projects and in touring works around Australia and overseas. Prior Fringe, Danny was working as the Festival Producer for Drama Victoria, an Events Producer for Melbourne Writers Festival, and the Tours Coordinator for Melbourne International Comedy Festival, as well as continuing his work as an indie project producer and his passion as a theatre director.

CAITLYN BARCLAY – Board Member

Caitlyn has worked with a number of Victorian arts organisations, in a variety of managerial, support, or communications roles, including: Regional Arts Victoria, Drama Victoria, St Martins Youth Arts Centre
, Fairfax Festival and the Australian Film, and Television and Radio School

PENELOPE BARTLAU – Artistic Director 

Theatre & Events Creator/Producer/Arts facilitator/Puppeteer/Writer/ Director

Penelope created Barking Spider Visual Theatre in 2006, and with the company, has generated in around 1oo works, working intensively to expand the company’s creativity, reach, audiences and capacity. Penelope also works as part time Creative Projects Director at Women*s Circus.

LEAH SCHOLES – Artistic Associate

Leah is a percussionist with extensive experience across many areas of the performing arts. Leah performs regularly with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and Queensland Symphony Orchestra. She is also an active chamber musician, appearing regularly with ensembles such as Arcko Symphonic Project and Beautiful Rubble. She currently teaches percussion and music theory at Melbourne Girls Grammar School. Leah has been Barking Spider’s Artistic Associate since 2007.
