Beardo – A Tableaux Vivant

Thinking of the Victorian era as one of great refinement and manner, but also the era of extraordinary repression, Barking Spider Visual Theatre presents a performance work, Beardo a Tableaux Vivant featuring a number of Victorian Ladies (and one gentleman) with a difference.

Your Event

At your event, amongst the crowd can be 1-4 of these of tall, Victorian Ladies along with their one gentleman escort. Each lady is dressed in a black skirt, heeled boots and a high-necked blouse, with hair trussed up into a bun of catastrophic proportion. Each carries a fan, and uses the fan as a means of communication. Most remarkable about these Ladies, is that each sports a handsome beard.

Their language is one of silent Victorian tradition: the language of the fan. A tilt, drop, slap of a fan, at times subtle and at other times absurd; combined with a stoic gaze and belief that all is well – do you dare to tell them of their affliction?

One of the ladies is a photographer. The Photographer moves around the space, accompanied & assisted by the gentleman in a top hat (underneath which is a beard growing vertically on top of his head). They quietly and calmly set up their equipment. Once the all is ready, the Ladies draw together and pose for a photograph, along with anyone else who would like to take part.
